COMPANY OVERVIEW

Deirdre Lobo founded Ensemble Vocalis (EV) in 2003 in San Francisco, California, USA, with a view to presenting accomplished artists in the classical vocal field, in concert. The intention in forming such a group was not only to showcase their particular talents but to provide a regular concert platform for interesting and popular works, both solo and ensemble, in a variety of genres. The company has been very successful over the past six years, doing programs that include, for example, A Night at the Opera (a program of operatic excerpts), An Evening with Mozart (a program of Mozart opera, sacred music and songs), Broadway at its Best (a program of Broadway excerpts), etc. Mixed programs also form a large part of the repertoire and a very popular format involves other performing arts organizations. For example, the World Festival of Music and Dance (a program of ethnic music and dance from different parts of the world) showcases the music and cultures of various countries.

The mission of EV is to provide artists an opportunity to perform on stage, in the company of other artists, and to gain exposure and experience, in the furtherance of their own individual goals and aspirations. Performances are not limited to any one type of concert or recitals, and may include other art forms. Artists perform from a wide spectrum in the vocal repertoire - Opera, Oratorio, Lieder, Folksongs, Broadway, and World Music etc. This company has performed over 12 concerts throughout the Bay Area and beyond, since it’s founding in 2003. It is EV's goal to expand its audience base beyond the San Francisco Bay Area to other parts of the United States, and, possibly, internationally, beginning with Deirdre’s own country, India.

Ensemble Vocalis strives to:

• To present concert performances of the highest quality.

• To make available a variety of forms of music, and drama, to the widest possible
audiences thus educating them in and, in the process, fostering an appreciation
of music and art forms of a diverse nature.

• To explore and enrich such chosen forms of vocal and instrumental music.

• To collaborate with other performing arts organizations bringing to the public a
concert of many performing art forms.

• To take a leadership role in arts’ education and audience development.

• To be creative and innovative in all aspects of the performing arts.

• To give artistes at superior experience levels an opportunity to perform in public
  thus furthering their performance goals.
